MIUT 2012 regulation
Clube de Montanha do Funchal is the association that organize the MIUT - Madeira Island Ultra Trail, which runs from 7 to 10 June 2012.
This event will take place with absolute respect for the environment.
Article 1. - Requirements and Obligations of Participants
To participate in the competition participants must meet the following requirements:
- Have at least 20 years to the UT 100 and 18 for the Trail 55 and Trail 25, at race day.
- Understand and accept the conditions of this Regulation.
- Make the correct registration.
- Participants enrolled in the Madeira Island Ultra Trail voluntarily agree to participate under their own responsibility in the competition. Therefore agree not to complain or require the organization, volunteers, officials, sponsors and other participants from any liability with them.
- Since there is no cutting road traffic, participants must comply with traffic regulations in cities and roads for public use, as well as agricultural areas and respect the private property, under penalty of having to take and potential damage claims resulting from failure to comply.
- Participants should be aware of the distance and the particulars of the evidence and are sufficiently trained for this.
- Have acquired before the race, a real capacity for self-sufficiency in the mountain, which allows the management of problems induced by this type of evidence, including changes in weather conditions (night, wind, cold, fog, rain or snow) .
- Participants must know how to face physical and mental problems resulting from extreme fatigue, digestive problems, joint, muscle aches, etc..
- Be aware that the role of the organization is not to help a participant overcome these problems and that this depends mainly on its ability to adapt to difficult situations resulting from this type of event.
- This is race of individual participation, is not allowed to be accompanied by animals.
The participant must therefore fulfill the disclaimer and the medical record to be delivered upon check-in. These documents can be downloaded on the event website.
Article 2. - Registration
The registration at the Madeira Island Ultra Trail involves understanding and accepting without reservation the rules and regulations of the competition.
- Only entries made on the website www.madeiraultratrail.com are accepted.
- Each participant must correctly complete the registration form and pay their value.
- The registration will be valid only upon payment of registration fee.
- After confirmation of payment, the name will be effective in the entry list, which will be updated periodically.
- The registration period will run from 20 December 2011 to 30 April 2012.
- The registration fee is 90 € for the UT 100, € 60 to € 30 and Trail 55 to Trail 25.
- Enrollment in any of the evidence is final and can not be changed.
- The registration fee includes:
- Public liability insurance and personal accident.
- Supply of solids and liquids, while in competition.
- Transfer from the place of concentration for the start.
- Transportation to the arrival, in case of abandon the race or be prevented by the organization to continue the same.
- Official race souvenirt.
- Award of arrival (Finisher).
- Certificate of participation.
- Lunch.
- The payment of registration implies a place reservation.
Article 3. Limited places
- Due to logistical reasons the Madeira Island Ultra Trail is limited to about 500 participants,to the total of 3 races.
- The organizer reserves 20 places to meet their commitments.
- The organizer reserves the right to increase or reduce the number of places for reasons of safety or for any other reason that may affect the smooth running of the race. All changes will be announced in advance on the official website.
- The organizer reserves the right to exclude the race even before it started, any participant who, through their behavior, condition management and / or the smooth running of the race. If this occurs, the athlete will be repaid in 40% of the payment value.
Article 4. Cancellation of Registration and Reimbursement Rate
- Reimbursement may be requested when a participant has an impediment to making the race, provided that such impediment is due to an accident or an illness diagnosed already in evidence after registration.

This application must be attached medical certificate and proof of payment.
- No cancellations will be accepted by phone.
- The amounts reimbursed to participants who meet the above conditions, will vary according to the date on which the reimbursement request.
The reimbursement of fees paid will be made under the following conditions:
- Before 29.02.2012, 60% of the fee will be returned.
- From 03/01/2012 to 03/31/2012, 50% of the fee will be returned.
- From 01/04/2012 to 04/30/2012, 40% of the fee will be returned.
- As of 01/05/2012 there will be no refund.
- If the event is canceled for reasons beyond the control of the organization, until the closing date of entries, will be entitled to a refund calculated on a percentage determined by the organization, which can cover the expenses so far made to the event.
Article 5. Semi-autonomy
Semi-autonomy is defined as the ability to be independent between two refreshment points, not only in food but also clothing and safety, but is particularly able to adapt to adverse situations (bad weather, physical problems, injuries, etc.). Participants must have the ability to semi-autonomy.
Article 6. Required Material
- Each participant must have all the material required with him during the competition. At any time during the race directors or heads of control can check the material required. The participant must accept these controls in a peaceful manner, under penalty of being excluded from evidence. See list of penalties in Article 15.
- Material required (to be presented at check-in and be transported by the participant throughout the race):
- Backpack or similar equipment.
- Thermal blanket.
- 2 headlalmp's for UT 100 and 1 to Trail 55 and Trail 25, with extra batteries.
- Water tank or equivalent of 1 liter, at least.
- Reserve food.
- Mobile phone operating (with sufficient battery).
- Whistle.
- Waterproof jacket.
- Cup with 15 cl capacity, at least.
- Red light to use on the back for UT 100.
- Elastic band or roller bandage (100cm x 6cm).
Material strongly recommended (optional):
- Sticks.
- Trousers, which at least cover the knee.
- Gloves.
- Cap or "buff".
- Change of clothes.
- Sunscreen.
- Amount of cash (to some unexpected).
- Medications (anti-inflammatory and / or analgesics).
- For safety, we recommend the participants to the prior verification of their material in order to ensure they are in perfect shape for the race.
- Participants in the race UT 100 have the possibility to send a bag (supplied by the organization) with a change of clothes and / or other assets to one of the checks that will be located roughly halfway through the race. Participants deliver the bag at the starting zone, which will be returned to them before the prize giving ceremony by presenting the race bib. It is not allowed to put sticks in the bag. The organization assumes no responsibility for their content.
- Participants who opt for the use of sticks, necessarily have to use them until the end of the race.
Article 7. Checkpoints and Supplies
- The checkpoints are obligatory points of passage and are located in areas delineated by the organization. In each of these checks will be a commissioner of the organization.
- Do not control one or more control points will lead to disqualification of the participant.
- During the race there may be "surprise checkpoints" to ensure full compliance with the route. Its position, obviously, will not be communicated by the organization.
- Only participants with visible race bib will have access to checkpoints and supply.
- Participants will use the electronic control system Sport Ident.
- The refreshment point are made up of food and drink to be consumed on site. Only water is intended to fill tanks or containers.
- There will be two types of refreshment points: one, only liquids and others solids and liquids that will vary depending on location.
- For participants are possible to have personal assistance given by one person and only allowed in the 100 meters prior to the entry at checkpoints / supply. All professional assistance (coach, doctor, team) is strictly prohibited.
Article 8. Distance, Time, and Maximum Hourly Barriers
- The MIUT - Madeira Island Ultra Trail is an event that includes three individual races, with a time limit for completion.
- UT 100 - Approximately 105 km with 5% positive climb.
- Trail 55 - Approximately 55 km with 5% positive climb.
- Trail 25 - Approximately 25 km with 5% positive climb.
- The maximum time for completion of each event is as follows:
- UT 100 - 26 hours
- Trail 55 - 16 hours
- Trail 25 - 12 hours
- The tme barriers are calculated for the participants to achieve the finish line in the time limit imposed, already accounting for the possible stops (rest, supplies, etc.).
- To be allowed to continue in the event, participants must arrive and leave the checkpoint before its closure, otherwise it will be unable to continue and therefore will be disqualified.
- Any member excluded from the race and who wants to continue, can only do it by delivering is race bib and chip (if rented), proceeding at your own discretion and in complete autonomy.
- For reasons of weather and / or security, the organization reserves the right to change the hours barrier.
Article 9. Retirement, Evacuation and Medical Assistance
- The retirement must be made only at checkpoints. In the event of an accident or injury in which the participant is fixed and can not reach a checkpoint, you must activate the rescue operation, by contacting the organization.
- The contact number of the organization for the purpose of emergency, will be printed on the race bib of the participant and should also be recorded in advance on your phone.
- The organization provides transportation from the point of abandonment to the finish.
- There will be first aid positioned in some checkpoints. It is essential that the participants will help any person in danger and alert the nearest checkpoint or contact the organization.
- Do not forget that due to problems associated with the environment and type of event you may need to wait for assistance for longer than normal. The resulting safety of the athletes basically depends on the quality of materials / equipment that they have.
- Participants must abide by the decisions of the specialist medical staff.
Article 10. Change of Course or time barriers; Cancellation of the race
- The organizer reserves the right to change the route at any time and the location of checkpoints / refreshment points, without notice. In the case of strongly adverse weather conditions the race may be delayed up to two hours, after which the race is canceled. There will be no refund.
- During the race, in case of bad weather and for safety reasons, the organization reserves the right to modify the time barriers, or to suspend, reduce, neutralize or stop the race. There will be no refund.
Article 11. "Check-In"
- On Check-In days (7 and 8 June), the participants must submit the following documents:
- ID card or Passport.
- Medical Record (completed and signed by himself).
- Term of responsability (completed and signed by himself).
- All participants must submit the material required. Participants who do not exhibit this material, or making it unusable or defective, do not pass this check and therefore can not attend the race.
- All participants will receive:
- Custom race bib - This should always be visible throughout the race. It should therefore be placed over the clothes and can not be determined for any reason on the back or leg. The name and logo of the sponsors can not be changed or hidden.
- Chip SportIdent - Participants who have their own chip SportIdent can use it , provideing the number when you registered. The organization will provide chips to athletes who do not have it, by paying a deposit of € 30. This deposit will be returned to the participant upon return of the chip after the race or in case of withdrawal or abandonment. The competitors who will use the chip provided by the organization must delivered the deposit in the right value, no change will be returned.
- Guide - A race guide will be available in paper. The guide includes practical information such as route elevation, time barriers, checkpoints and refreshment points, etc..
- Bag - Participants in the race UT 100 will receive a bag for change of clothes and other possessions.
- Official race souvenir.
- Lunch for accompanying - The accompanying can also participate in the official lunch, through the acquisition of voucher's, the cost of the voucher will be set by the organization.
Article 12. Insurance
- The organizer supports a liability insurance and personal accident for the duration of the event. This insurance provides coverage of their responsibilities, their employees and participants.
Article 13 - Departure and Arrival
- Before departure, participants will be guided by the organization to "CLEAR" and "CHECK" the chip.
- The clock starts counting at the scheduled time, with or without the presence of participants. Participants who are not present until 15 minutes after start or put up beyond this period will be prevented from leaving, and as such, will not be sorted.
- Upon arrival, participants will finalize the race at control station "FINISH"
Article 14. Signaling
- The organization will signal the pathway with tape (red and white) with a reflective band (for better night vision), signs and marks on the pavement. It is imperative to follow the signposted paths without taking shortcuts. Participants, if they fail to see signs for approximately 500 meters ,must go back again until finds its signaling.
Article 15. Penalty and Disqualification
The race director's and commissioners are responsible for implementing the race rules and regulations and therefore are allowed to apply penalties and disqualifications established in the table below.

Article 16. Categories, Classifications and Awards
- Senior M - between 20 and 39 UT 100 and between 18 and 39 to Trail 55 and Trail 25;
- Veterans M I - between 40 and 49 years
- Veterans M II - from 50 years
- Senior F - between 20 and 39 UT 100 and between 18 and 39 to Trail 55 and Trail 25;
- Veterans F I - between 40 and 49 years
- Veterans F II - from 50 years
The categories are defined depending on the the date's given by participants upon registration, and with reference to the date of the event.
Classification and Awards:
- For the three races, only those participants who take control of all checkpoints (CP's) and cut the finish line, will be classified (finishers).
- In the arrival area, the participant should download the chip. If the chip is rented, the participant must return it to its organization and receive the deposit.
- There will be no prize money.
- There will be prize of arrival for all athletes classified.
- There will be prize for the best Madeira resident male and female in UT 100 and Trail 55 and a medal for Trail 25.
- Prized athletes must be at the prize giving cerimony. The organization does not give any further trophies and other personal elements.
- For each event there will be a classification of female and male overall rating and a ranking as follows:

Article 17. Complaints
- Any complaint must be write and sent to the Race Director, accompanied by a deposit of 50 € (non refundable if the complaint is dismissed) until two hours after the arrival of the participant in question. In the complaint must contain the name of the complainant, no ID / Passport, name (s) of the participant (s) affected, race bib and motives that claim. The provisional classifications may also be the target of complaints, 30 minutes after its publication.
- The jury is composed of the Race Director, chairman, president or vice president of the organizing club and an individual of recognized merit in the area of the Trail. The jury will decide before the publication of official results.
- Decisions taken by the jury are final and are not subject to appeal.
Article 18. Image Rights and Advertising
- The organizer reserves the exclusive right of use of the image of MIUT - Madeira Island Ultra Trail audiovisual and photographic and journalistic event. Any project or advertising media produced for publication must obtain the prior consent of the organization.
- It is obligatory to use the advertising material supplied by the organization, (race bib, stickers, etc.). Modify, double or hide the advertising material will be subject to penalty.
Article 19. Data Protection
The data of the participants indicated on the registration form will be recorded by the organizer for the sole purpose of processing the event, including being published in the entry list, various news and classification, among others. Article 20. Modifications
These rules may be edited, altered, or improved at any time by the organizer. The fact that take your application implies acceptance of these regulations.
